This Week at St Josephs
Good afternoon, term is moving along rapidly and we are seeing the children well and truly settled into routines with their teachers. We are also seeing some fantastic work!
Unfortunately, we had a report of a positive Covid case for a pupil in Year 6 this week. In these instances we receive guidance from Public Health England and are directed to act in certain ways. As a result, we have had to ask the Year 6 children and some staff to self isolate for 14 days. This is regrettable as I had started to see Year 6 beginning to show really strong behaviours and positive attitudes towards their learning. Work will be placed on the VLE for the children to complete.
This Saturday will see the beatification of a young man who was born in London, but grew up in Milan. Carlo Acutis can be an inspiration for all of us, his humility and deep faith led him to do the ordinary things in life in an extraordinary way. You can see a short animation of his life story here.
Like everyone, we are not sure what the future holds amidst rumours of another lockdown or potentially a two week half term, no doubt the Government will tell us when they see fit. What I can tell you is that the school are very well prepared to support your children in their learning should we be directed to close whether it is year groups or extended holidays…

Early Years and Infant News
It has been another wonderful week here in the Infant School.
I was lucky enough to see some fantastic maths learning in Year Two this week. I was so impressed when I saw the children counting in tens and then adding ones to find the answer. Amazing work!
In Year One, the children are working incredibly hard on their phonics and writing. I have been so impressed with the incredible handwriting I have seen in their English books.
The Reception children have definitely settled in to School now, and I was so happy to see them practising their threading and drawing skills to further improve their fine motor development.
Our Achievement assemblies take place in class every Monday, and it is a chance for us to celebrate those children who have been noticed for their hard work and positive attitude. Well done to all those who received a gold sticker!

Junior News
It has been another busy but exciting week at the Junior School. There have been lots of interesting learning, the children in year 3 and 4 are becoming masters in sorting 2D shapes and identifying their properties. It has been amazing to talk to the children about their work.
In Year 3, children have been writing character descriptions in Roald Dahl's 'Minpins' in English.
While in Year 4, children have continued to undertake work based on the book Voices in the Park.They have taken part in role play, based on Dad's character from the book, written stories about him and also been book detectives. What a fun being a book detective!
In Year 5, children have been working on the short multiplication method and looking at squared numbers in Maths. In English, they are enjoying their Templeton Twins book and are writing letters to friends in character. They have also looked at their role in “The Church” in RE and looked at how Covid has changed their ability to connect with their faith as a community. This I believe parents will agree that we have all also missed our interaction with our parish community.
The children in Year 6 were sent home yesterday due to the single confirmed positve case in their bubble. However, learning continues remotely on our Virtual Learning Platform on the school’s website. Teachers will provide daily work on the school’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) as well as links to appropriate remote learning platforms for pupils. It is important that children continue with their learning, children should login using their usual login details given to them by their teachers.
