Early Years Foundation Stage
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to St Joseph's Camberwell Catholic Schools Ferderation as your child begins their educational journey with us. Each member of our team aim to provide the best care and learning experiences for your child ensuring they feel secure and happy. We believe in working with parents ensuring each and every child can reach their true potential.
Mission Statement
At St Joseph’s we aim to ensure that every child matters and all children are nurtured and learn without barriers. Our children are raised in the context of a diverse and vibrant Catholic community within the teachings of Jesus Christ and are witnesses to a Christian way of life. At St Joseph’s we belong to a loving, welcoming, forgiving family that lives in the life of the Gospels.
We celebrate that St Joseph’s is a secure, happy school with high expectations; trusted by the community. We embrace honesty, responsibility, respect, equality, tolerance and acceptance. We recognise that children have the ability to grow spiritually, emotionally, physically, intellectually and creatively and so will consequently, achieve their very best in an ambitious, supportive environment.
Our Intent
The EYFS plays an important part of this, setting the foundations for children’s learning at the beginning of their school life.
The children receive a broad and balanced curriculum that is accurately and thoroughly planned and purposefully sequenced across all 7 areas of learning.
These seven areas of learning are:
Personal, social and Emotional Development
Communication and Language
Physical development
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
The ‘Characteristics of Effective Learning’ are at the heart of the Early Years Curriculum and explore the different ways in which children learn, highlighting the importance of ‘playing and learning’, ‘active learning’ and ‘thinking critically. All the learning experiences we plan for the children allow them to utilise and develop these skills.
A practical and playful approach to learning based on the needs and interests our children is delivered through topic based planning. We teach children in small groups, individually and in class cohorts. Through a combination of teacher input and continuous provision opportunities, learning is planned to encourage children to develop their learning independently and collaboratively through exploration and challenge.
Our learning environments, both inside and outside are stimulating and exciting whist promoting a calm atmosphere that is conducive to learning where children are excited to learn and happy to be.
